Gas Fitter Raworth

Raworth Plumbing Co is the gas fitter for Raworth homes, connecting new appliances, finding gas leaks and extending lines to alfresco areas, sheds and kitchens. A licensed gas fitter looks over the pipework, gives you a fixed price before starting, and books the work at a time that suits you. See Raworth Plumbing Co for everything else we do.

Which Gas Jobs Need a Licence?

Every one past the meter. Consumer gas piping is licensed work under NSW rules, and that covers:

  • Connecting or swapping a cooktop, wall oven, room heater, barbecue or pool heater
  • Fitting a plug-in bayonet so a portable heater or barbecue can be connected
  • Extending the house line to an alfresco area, shed or garage
  • Tracing a smell of gas and repairing the joint or pipe at fault
  • Capping a line safely when an appliance is taken out for good

A handyperson or an appliance retailer cannot legally connect gas, even if the appliance came with a flexible hose in the box.

Raworth Gas Fitting Services

Two parts of the work have their own pages:

Gas Appliance Installation

New cooktop and heater hook-ups: the right-size supply, a regulator set to the appliance and a burner check once it is lit.

Gas Leak Detection and Repair

Smells, hissing and meter creep: the leak located with a detector and a pressure test, then the faulty section fixed.

Steps on a Gas Visit

  1. 1

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4915 2998 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 2

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 3

    Pressure test on completion

The new or repaired section is isolated, pressurised and watched on a gauge, and the appliance is lit and checked.

  4. 4

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

How Is the Price of Gas Work Set?

"Not only all of that but the job came in right on quote." Steve

Gas pricing starts with the load. A pool heater draws far more than a cooktop, and a bigger draw can mean a larger pipe all the way back to the meter. After that come:

  • Distance from the meter And whether the line has to pass under a slab, over the ceiling or around the outside of the house
  • The existing pipe Since the original copper may need upsizing before it can feed another appliance
  • Finishes in the way Such as paving, decking or a tiled splashback

We provide up-front, honest quotes that will always match the final price, should you decide to go ahead.

Gas in Raworth Houses

Pipes sized for the day of handover

Raworth filled with brick-veneer project homes from the late 1980s, then kept growing through the 2000s and into the lots still opening between the estates and Morpeth Road. The original gas supply was sized for the appliances on the original plan, so adding a heater point or an outdoor burner means checking whether that pipe can carry the extra load.

Big homes, long runs

Census figures show 67.1 percent of homes here with four or more bedrooms, and on those footprints the path from the meter to an alfresco kitchen can be long. The reactive clay in the yards also moves with the seasons, so any buried section is laid in sand and protected rather than dropped straight into the ground.

When We're Not the Right Call

Anything from the meter back to the street, regulator included, is the gas network's equipment, and a fault there goes to their emergency line. A heater that will not start because its circuit board or fan has failed goes back to the brand's own service repairer.

Gas Questions From Raworth Homes

Can you add a gas point for a heater in a Raworth lounge room?

Yes. A wall bayonet lets a portable gas heater click in and out safely, and it suits the cool Maitland winters here. We run a branch from the nearest suitable section of pipe, fit the point at skirting height and test the whole run before the heater is connected.

I can smell gas in the kitchen. What comes first?

Get everyone out of the house and leave switches and phones alone until you are clear of it. A strong smell, or one near the meter, goes to the gas network emergency line. For a smell at an appliance or along the house pipework, call us and a gas fitter will pin the leak down.

Will I get a compliance certificate for the gas work?

Yes. Gas fitting in NSW is licensed work, and a compliance certificate is issued once the installation has passed its pressure test. Keep it with the house papers, since a buyer or a future gas fitter may ask to see what was installed and when.

How far can a gas line run to an outdoor kitchen?

It depends on the appliance load and the pipe size, not just the distance. On the bigger blocks here a run out to an alfresco area can stretch well past the back door, so we size the pipe to carry the full load without a pressure drop and bury or clip it where it is protected.
